The Mark & Dorothy Danzker Scholarship for Excellence


An award of excellence for preservation of ethno-cultural heritage

Eight (8) scholarships of $1,000 each


2026 Scholarship Application Deadline:

Friday, April 24, 2026 at noon (12:00pm)


To be eligible for this scholarship, the applicant must:
  • Be accepted to or be currently enrolled in a university, college, or other recognized post-secondary institution within Canada with a full course load (as defined by the institution)
  • Be between the ages of 17 and 25 years
  • Be a resident of Manitoba for a minimum of the past six (6) months
  • Demonstrate active involvement in preserving ethno-cultural heritage through volunteerism and/or employment
  • Have achieved a minimum academic average of 70% or a cumulative 2.5 GPA
    • High school applicants’ academic average will be assessed based on full credit (1.0) grade 12/level 40 courses; half-credit (0.5) and pass/fail courses will not be included in the academic average.
  • Have not been a previous recipient of this scholarship
  • Not be a Folklorama Board or staff member or immediate family of same
Required information to be entered/uploaded to this online application form:

1)      Completed scholarship application form (fill in page 2 of this online form)

2)     Completed questionnaire

o   Applicants must download the fillable PDF questionnaire form HERE (or from page 3 of this form) and submit it to Folklorama by uploading it to page 3 of this online form once completed.

3)     Copy of most recent transcript(s) (with name and year indicated) from current high     school or post-secondary institution, uploaded to page 3 of this online form

o   High school students must also submit a copy of their most recent report card, in order to accurately capture all marks/grades.

o   Ideally, transcripts and/or report cards will be as of April 2026 so that all grades are up-to-date.

Reference letters (to submit separately to the Folklorama office):
  • Applicants must provide two (2) supporting letters of reference from two (2) separate individuals that are not from the same organization.
  • Reference letters must follow the guidelines provided in the “2026 Reference Letter Guidelines” PDF at this link HERE.
    • Please ensure that your references receive a copy of the letter writing guidelines.
    • Letters of reference may not be from a relative or immediate family of the applicant, Folklorama staff member, or member of the Folklorama Board of Directors.
  • One (1) reference letter must be from an ethno-cultural community member who has known the applicant for a minimum of two (2) years.
  • The second reference letter may be from a member of the general community or from a secondary ethno-cultural community member who has known the applicant for a minimum of two (2) years.
    • Examples of general community members for references include religious leaders, teachers/principals, extracurricular/volunteer activity leaders, etc.
    • If using a secondary ethno-cultural community member as a reference, the individual should be from a different organization than the first reference.
  • Reference letters are not to be uploaded to this online form.  Reference letters may be submitted to Folklorama by:
    • Emailing to info@folklorama.ca. References should not include/CC in the applicant. This is the preferred method.
    • Mailing to the Folklorama offices in a sealed envelope, with the reference’s signature across the sealed flap.

The Folklorama Scholarship Jury reserves the right to not award all scholarships.

Award Disbursement:

Funds will be awarded in June 2026 and released in September 2026 upon receipt of:

  • Copy of acceptance letter from the post-secondary institution
  • Proof of payment for initial fees at the post-secondary institution
  • 200-word biography of the recipient

 

NB:   If the recipient does not complete their indicated program at their post-secondary institution as per this application, the recipient must return the awarded scholarship funds to Folklorama as follows:

  • 100% of the awarded funds within three (3) months of the indicated start date
  • 50% of the awarded funds after three (3) months of the indicated start date

      Guidelines for applying:

      • It is strongly encouraged that applicants submit their application prior to the deadline, should the Folklorama office require additional information for their submission.
      • The applicant is responsible for providing their most recent transcript and/or report card, completed questionnaire, and any other required documents to Folklorama with their application form before the deadline.  References must also submit their references before the deadline.  Incomplete or late applications may not be considered.

      HERE.  Once complete, please upload the questionnaire form below.  Questionnaire responses will only be accepted in this manner.  There are a total of six (6) questions in the questionnaire.  The form has been set to accept a maximum of 350 words for Questions 1, 3, and 4; you will not be able to continue typing if you exceed the word limit and will be required to shorten your response.

      Applicant's Transcript(s) and/or Report Card(s)

      If you are a high school student, please include a copy of the most recent report card in addition to the most recent transcript available.  This will ensure that all marks/grades are accurately captured.


      Reminder:

      High school and post-secondary students must have a full coarse load to be eligible for the scholarship, as determined by their school/institution.

      Reminders:
